Mentors will be recruited to work within the scope of the project

1. Background

It is very important to inform students accurately about higher education throughout their university life and to guide them academically and professionally to ensure that they develop the right attitude towards higher education. In universities, this task falls to Academic Mentors. This faculty member/mentor is the first person; students will consult regarding any academic issue.

The mentorship is a systematic process that guides the student to the best methods in his educational progress under the guidance of academic staff since these elements are essential in order to help the student as soon as he enrolls in the university. In order for the student to achieve progress in his educational program, he will need to know all the procedures and requirements. And here comes the importance of the mentors as a source for these information’s. Mentors will be responsible for explaining this information’s since they are the source to whom the student approaches for approval of the student’s curriculum. Therefore, the core of the educational process lies in the hands of the student himself and the main goal of the mentorship is to provide him with the support he needs throughout his academic path and to complete the educational plan requirements as well as increasing the independent confidence growth within the student according to the educational program goals.

The specific benefits of being mentored include:

  • being encouraged and empowered in personal development
  • being helped to identify and achieve career goals
  • being helped to identify and correct gaps in generic skills and knowledge
  • increasing student’s confidence
  • developing and maintaining a broader perspective on career options and opportunities
  • having access to a senior role model
  • gaining insight into University culture
  • developing mentoring/coaching skills
